PHILLIPSCemetery
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the cemetery's hours?
Each day from daylight until dusk.
Are gravesites available and who can be buried at Phillips Cemetery?
According to the by-laws, gravesites are available to residents of the Dripping Springs Independent School District and to others who have previously deceased family members interred at the Phillips Cemetery.
The Board will hear and act on requests for extenuating circumstances if they do not meet the above criteria.
May I purchase or reserve a gravesite?
According to the by-laws, gravesites are not for purchase but are assigned at time of death. When a gravesite is assigned, an adjoining site may be reserved for a spouse or reserved for parents of a child.
What is the cost of a gravesite?
Gravesites are not purchased; rather a contribution to the Phillips Cemetery Association in the amount of $750.00 is requested for each gravesite.
Does Phillips Cemetery have a location for cremains?
The cemetery has a columbarium located in the southwest corner near the gazebo. Cremains are placed in the columbarium niches.
Each single niche cost is $750.00.
Who can have cremains placed at Phillips Cemetery?
Anyone, no matter their residence location, may purchase a niche or niches within the columbarium. They may be purchased any time before or when a death occurs.
Who takes care of the maintenance of Phillips Cemetery?
Regular mowing and weed eating are completed by Hays County Contractors and independent contractors as needed. The board of
directors determines other maintenance and construction projects. Families are encouraged to maintain gravesites of their loved ones as Phillips is not a perpetual care cemetery.
How may I decorate a gravesite?
Unbreakable items may be added to a gravesite and should remain near or on the headstone. Glass containers or breakable decorations are never permitted. Decorations such as flowers may be placed in unbreakable containers but should be removed as they deteriorate. Be mindful that regular mowing and weed eating might destroy decorations.
According to the by-laws, “there shall be no trees, shrubbery, plants of any kind including cactus planted except those approved by the Board of Directors. There shall be no benches, curbs, and rocks and/or concrete of any type except those permitted by the Board of Directors.”
Who do I contact when my family needs to bury a loved one or wishes to have cremains interred in the columbarium?
A director of the board. A funeral home would also be appropriate to call. The best way to contact a Phillips Cemetery Association board director is by calling 512-658-4942 or 512-636-7008, or by email at phillipscemetery@gmail.com.
